Soul Sacrifice

This is it, the final act of the story. Use everything you've learned (and this handy reference) to learn the truth about Magusar and finish him off for good!

Mad Chronicle: Only Memories Remain

The final act has an appropriately final level of difficulty. For every chapter here you will be on your own. No more Magusar or others to help you out in this final stretch and every chapter consists of either and Archfiend or Sorcerer fight. Use all the skills and abilities at your disposal and get ready to finish off Magusar at last.

Enemies

  • Phoenix (Archfiend)

The Phoenix is one of the most irritating Archfiends in the game. It is quick, has attacks that cover a large area and has little wind up so you must be prepared to dodge or heal at all times. At close range, the Archfiend will regularly use roar-type attacks that hit everything nearby.

At a distance, it launches fire attacks that home in on you and leave a large swath of ground on fire for several seconds, making moving around dangerous. Midway between the two is the best place to be. At this distance, the Phoenix will almost exclusively use a dashing attack that is easy to avoid and if you are positioned correctly or block with a shield, gives you several seconds to pummel it without fear of retaliation.

Each time its health drops down to a certain threshold, the Phoenix will drop to the ground dead and like its namesake will erupt into flames and be revived after a few seconds. Fortunately, this does not restore any health but does hit a very large area and will almost certainly set you on fire if you get hit.

Chapter 5

Rewards Available

  • Giant God's Arm
  • Timesand
  • Chest of Fortune (S)

Enemies

  • Magusar (Sorcerer)

Just like your previous battles with Magusar, stay on the move and keep your offense up to drop him.

  • Miserly Coinpurse (L)
  • Irondrake Egg (L)

Enemies

  • Hydra (Archfiend)

Use the same tactics as before to take out the Hydra. Like most of this act things can be a bit difficult since you are alone with no one to help distract the monster.

Chapter 7

Rewards Available

  • None, this is the end.

Enemies

  • Magusar (Sorcerer/Archfiend)

This is it, the end of the journal. Magusar has let himself go and has become the monster you saw at the beginning of the game. This fight plays out just like your other sorcerer battles except that Magusar is much more powerful and much faster. Keep your guard up and take your shots when you have the chance and soon enough the chapter will come to a close. There is no victory condition this time around, just keep fighting Magusar until you see the end of chapter screens.

The Final Fight

Rewards Available

  • None.

Enemies

  • Magusar (Sorcerer/Archfiend)

Once you've chosen to finally face Magusar and escape the journal and your prison, tell Librom and you will be treated to a short cutscene. The fight begins much like your fights with Magusar in the journal but he's added a few tricks in the last few centuries. For much of this fight, Magusar will be protected by a shield with several layers. Deal enough damage and the layers will break one by one. Once the shield is completely removed, Magusar will be stunned for a few seconds before floating into the air and summoning three very large golems and his shield will return.

While the golems are active, Magusar will hide between them and summon huge columns of lightning from the sky. This attack telegraphs by causing the affected area to glow briefly so stay back from the golems and keep on the move until they disappear. Once the golems are gone, repeat this same strategy until Magusar falls.

Unfortunately, the fight can't be that easy. Magusar shows his true form as an Archfiend and becomes an enormous dragon. Your health and offerings will be restored at this point to make things a little more fair. The dragon is dangerous at any distance and this fight is not about avoiding damage as much as it is about killing the dragon before you die. At any distance the Dragon will unleash a few basic attacks from breathing fire in an arc in front of it to summoning a difficult-to-avoid whirlwind that will track you for a moment. The Archfiend's weak points are its head, the mid-point of its tail and its belly. If you are feeling confident in your offerings and ability to heal, the best place to be is underneath the dragon. From this point the only real way for it to hurt you is by stomping its feet which deals much less damage than its other attacks and is much less likely to actually hit you. From beneath the dragon, attack its feet to knock it off balance and give yourself several seconds to pound at its weak points. Most of its aerial attacks are fairly easy to avoid as long as you keep the camera focused on the boss. Once its health drops into orange or red, don't hesitate to use a black rite to finish things. Infernus in particular will almost certainly take what health it has left and since this is the final fight, there's no reason not to go all out! Once you bring down Magusar's second form, you will get once final choice to save or sacrifice before witnessing how things end.

Congratulations for clearing the main story! Now to take on those side chapters and Avalon Pacts!
