Rage 2 Could Be a “Completely Different Game” Months After Launch, According to Studio

Rage 2 looks to be an incredibly evolving wasteland adventure.

Rage 2 is on the horizon and promises a colorful wasteland where everything wants to kill you. From actual enemies – including cyborgs – to even parts of the map wanting you dead, it’s going to be intense. It looks like it will also be constantly evolving, at least according to iD Software Studio Director Tim Willits.

Willits recently sat down with the team over at GameSpot to talk about the upcoming open-world game where he revealed that there will be plenty of world events, live activities, and so much that will aid in expanding what the title is about. He even mentioned that there will be so much additional content post-launch that it would be safe to say that the game won’t be the same title players experienced on day one.

That being said, the changes won’t have to impact everyone. These events, this evolution, all impacts the online portion of the game. Players will be given the option to experience Rage 2 offline as well, bypassing all of the above events entirely and effectively keeping the game as-is.

But is this a “live-services” game? No. A rising concern is releases relying too heavily on being live-service, leaving the launched title bare bones at first. Willits was quick to address that worry, saying it’s a “supported game” and not a “live-service” title, and will be building on the base title for more substantial content, not content meant to flesh out what was missing.

Giants, “smug cliffs,” and so much more await when Rage 2 releases on May 14th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC players.

For more about the game before its arrival next month:

“An asteroid has annihilated 80% of the earth’s population, and humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule with an iron fist,” Bethesda said about Rage 2. “As Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland and a threat to their power, you have been robbed of your home and left for dead. Now you’ll have to rage for justice and freedom. With ludicrous vehicle combat, super-powered first-person mayhem, and an open world full of emergent madness, you will tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling sadistic gangs to find the tools and tech needed to crush the oppressive rule of The Authority once and for all.”
