PlayStation Members Reportedly “Blindsided” By Microsoft Collaboration

Apparently tensions were high when a large portion of the PlayStation team was left in the dark about the recently announced collaboration with Microsoft.

Earlier this week, we shared an important announcement regarding an exciting collaboration between Microsoft and PlayStation when both companies announced they were joining forces to make great gaming even better. The news that PlayStation would be utilizing Microsoft’s Azure datacenters to improve their online services excited many, though apparently, the higher-ups failed to mention the big move to the actual teams at PlayStation.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, the collaboration news was a huge surprise to many working at PlayStation, and the surprise wasn’t a pleasant one. According to Bloomberg’s report, “Managers had to calm workers and assure them that plans for the company’s next-generation console weren’t affected” by the deal.”

For years, the competition between Team Blue and Team Green has been fierce, even bleeding out into bizarrely hostile console wars between fans. To see headlines everywhere about a conjoined effort could be a bit disorienting, though hopefully those that needed a little extra time to handle the news have a better understanding of the vision going forward.

Given that the main focus of the surprise team-up seems to be focused primarily on streaming services in addition to advancing new technologies and AI programs, the two teams working together spells out good things for gamers, though perhaps a little more communication would be wise in the future regarding big news.

In case you missed our previous coverage last week, here’s the TL&DR version of the announcement courtesy of a joint press release:

“The parties will explore incorporation of Microsoft’s advanced AI platform and tools in Sony consumer products, to provide highly intuitive and user-friendly AI experiences.”

“Sony has always been a leader in both entertainment and technology, and the collaboration we announced today builds on this history of innovation. Our partnership brings the power of Azure and Azure AI to Sony to deliver new gaming and entertainment experiences for customers,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella added.
