PUBG – How to Reduce Lag on Xbox One

Having trouble keeping a good connection in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for Xbox One? Let us help.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now available on the Xbox One Game Preview program, and plenty of players have already started to dive into the game and give it a try. Unfortunately, on top of those players, many them have also reported quite a bit of in-game lag giving them trouble. Lag of any kind can ruin an experience, and while the servers are probably a bit overloaded right now—due to the game just releasing on console for the first time ever—there is something that players can do to ensure they have the best possible connection to the Xbox One servers.

Check Your Server

The first step in troubleshooting for lag in PUBG on Xbox One is to make sure the game is selecting the best servers for you. We’ve seen multiple reports of EU players being placed into the North American servers when launching the game, which can no doubt cause a good deal of lag for those overseas. You can check your current server at any time by looking in the bottom right-hand corner, where it should outline which server you are currently connected to.

To change the server that you are connected to, simply press the Menu Button on your Xbox One controller to bring up the server menu options. From here, choose the server that you want to play on. You can verify that your region has been changed by waiting for a confirmation message, and by checking the server region name listed in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

Check Your Connection

If you’re playing on the correct server region, then the issue might stem from your connection itself. If you really want to be competitive in a game like PUBG, then we’d absolutely suggest making sure your internet is up to the standard. You can run a speed check through your Xbox One to make sure your connection is solid, and we’d also suggest considering picking up some Ethernet cable to run from your Router/Modem to your Xbox One.

A wired connection is not only going to offer slightly better speeds than the built-in WIFI card, but it’s also going to offer a more reliable connection, meaning less lag in the long run. This is something that will prove worth the investment if you plan to spend as much time in PUBG as most players, and it will be something that you’re glad you picked up later down the line when you’re pulling in those sweet, sweet Chicken Dinners.

If the server is fine, and your connection itself is fine, then unfortunately things move to another level that we can’t really assist you with. Keep in mind that PUBG is very much an early access title, and this is the game’s first console version publicly available via the Games Preview program. This means that you’ll encounter some bugs and other issues, so don’t be afraid to take a break and come back to it later.
