Mortal Kombat 11 Is Making Key Tower Changes In Upcoming Update

The Towers difficulty and progression was a sore spot for a lot of Mortal Kombat 11 players.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now and the latest fighting game is a hit with both newcomers to the franchise, and returning veterans. That being said, that doesn’t mean the launch went on without a hitch. A common complaint from both reviewers and the community alike centered around two major things: Towers progression and microtransactions. Both are being addressed, reveals NetherRealm studios, here’s how.

NeatherRealm took to Twitch for their latest Kombat Kast to constructively combat some of the negative press surrounding Mortal Kombat 11. The studio is aiming to balance Towers in two distinct phases:

  1. April 23 deployed a server update which reduced maximum health for certain Towers of Time AI, setting the health at 1,500 rather than the initial 4,000. The studio also changed the frequency of unblockable attacks in combat, in addition to a nerfed damage from the AI themselves.
  2. Phase 2 is coming soon, which will focus on Towers of Time and removing unblockable attacks completely.

Phase 2 does not currently have a release date, though it’s likely that it will deploy during next Tuesday’s server update since it involves an integrated change. The studio is also planning to rework the rewards from the Towers, such as Koins and Souls, which is another point of tension for the community regarding “the grind.”

Grinding in games is nothing new and certainly isn’t new to the Mortal Kombat franchise, though some have expressed that they felt the grind did not feel balanced to the reward output. With various moves and skins available to unlock, changes to the rewards system will help put the ommf back into in-game progression, giving a more rewarding feeling to players as they take in everything the latest fighter has to offer.

For those that haven’t had a chance to check it out for themselves, Mortal Kombat 11 is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. You can learn even more about the game with our Hub here, including tips and our full review.
