The partnership will give gamers access to hundreds of games from more than 80 publishers.

Kickstarted by One Laptop Per Child designer Yves Behar and ex vice-president of game publishing at Microsoft Ed Fries, OUYA has been a runaway success in terms of funding and popularity, and it’s not even out yet.

The idea of the OUYA is that it’s “built to be hacked”; the Kickstarter page even explains that rooting the console won’t void your warranty.

Boss of OnLive UK, Bruce Grove had the following to say on the partnership:

“When OnLive first heard about OUYA, we were excited to see console gaming becoming more available and open. Like OUYA, we came to gaming with a new vision for making top-quality gaming accessible to more people, and we continue to look for ways to expand on that vision.

“OUYA is rethinking the console business, making waves by using standard technology to make gaming for your living room accessible, affordable and more innovative than ever. In OnLive’s case, we pioneered a groundbreaking, cloud-based system that instantly delivers games to any device on demand.”

The OUYA is expected to launch in March next year, and has managed to raise a pretty impressive $5,569,824 from 43,558 backers at the time of writing, a fair amount over the company’s original $950,000 target.

Human Element, ex-COD man Robert Bowling’s multiplatform, connected, slightly ARG, post-apocalyptic zombie-filled survival game is the first big game to commit to the console.
