Characters and Vehicles Unlocking Characters

Practically every hero, villain, and supporting character that appears in LEGO Batman 3 can be unlocked and used during Free Play. The first several characters that you unlock are the heroes and villains that you control as you play through the game’s story.

Unlocking Characters through Story Mode

Each time you beat a mission in Story Mode, you unlock all of the characters that you used during that mission. By the time you complete the story, you have a small army of super beings on your side! You may then revisit the missions and explore the hubs with these heroes in Free Play, using their combined powers to unlock many more characters and goodies.

Unlocking Characters through Tokens

Story Mode characters unlock automatically as you play, but unlocking other characters is a two-step process. First, you need to find each character’s Token. Three Character Tokens can be found in every level, and many more are hidden around the hubs.

After you’ve found a character’s Token, the second step is to purchase that character by spending some of your studs. Simply hold the Tag button to view all of your characters. Any characters that look like shadows are ones that you’ve unlocked but haven’t yet purchased. Select the character to see how many studs it takes to unlock it, then decide if you wish to spend your studs on them. The character descriptions on the following pages can help you decide which ones are worth buying first!

Unlocking Suits

Batman, Robin, Cyborg, Lex Luthor, and The Joker can all equip high-tech gadget suits that change their abilities to help them achieve superhuman feats. In fact, these characters must find and use suits in order to complete their missions. Like Story characters, you naturally unlock every special suit as you play through Story Mode.

The following table reveals every suit, along with the abilities that they bestow and the characters that can wear them. See the following “Character Abilities” section for descriptions of every ability.
