Finding the Lost Woods

Zelda Breath of the Wild Lost Woods

In Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the Lost Woods are located in the northern part of Central Hyrule. If you unlock the Woodland Tower you’ll be able to see the large Great Hyrule Forest on your map. The Lost Woods are essentially the southeast corner of the Great Hyrule Forest.

First and foremost, if you try to enter the Lost Woods by gliding in from the Woodland Tower, you’ll be positioned back at the tower. You can’t simply flying to the woods from any angle. You have to enter on the ground with your best option to glide down to the path that leads into the southeast corner of the Great Hyrule Forest.

Once you’re in the forest, continue to follow the path until you reach a lamp post. If you have a torch on you, light it at the lamp post and follow the series of lamp posts as far as you can. Eventually you’ll get to a point where it’s difficult to see where the next lamp post is located. Stop moving so you don’t get lost.

Don’t Get Lost

While not moving, look at the direction the wind is carrying the flame on your torch. Until you reach the Korok Forest you need to follow the flame on your torch. The easiest way to do this is by positioning the camera directly above Link so you can easily see when the flame changes direction. If you’re moving in the right direction the flame will trail directly behind Link. If it starts moving left or right, stop and take another look at the flame to see which direction it’s moving, then continue in that direction.

You may have to stop and check the direction of the flame multiple times, but if you take a wrong turn you will start over near the beginning of the Lost Woods. Take your time and focus on the flame. There are no enemies that will interrupt your journey through the Lost Woods, so just watch the flame until you finally reach the Korok Forest.

When you arrive, you’ll see the legendary weapon, but before you decide to pull it out of the ground, head to the right and activate the Keo Ruug shrine. You don’t have to enter the shrine, but activating it will allow you to fast travel back here without dealing with the Lost Woods again.

Find out if you’re ready to obtain the legendary weapon, work through the Keo Ruug shrine, or head back to our Zelda: Breath of the Wild game hub for more strategies and advice!
