Kingdom Hearts III Breaks Franchise Sales Records

The newest sequel has become the fastest selling game in the franchise's history.

Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts III has shipped over five million units globally across both digital and physical retail box editions. The hotly anticipated sequel to the beloved franchise launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 29, making it the fastest selling game in the franchise’s 17-year history.

Kingdom Hearts III puts players in the role of Sora, who is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, and other friends in a quest to battle the Heartless, an evil force threatens the universe. Along the way, players will visit worlds set in multiple Disney and Pixar animated films, including Frozen, Monsters Inc., Toy Story and more to protect them against invaders.

 

Since the first game’s release in 2002, the series has shipped 25 million games across the entire franchise worldwide.
