It should be noted that you can only evolve heroes, or survivors once you have leveled them all the way to max level for their particular evolution. The original max level for every hero or survivor is level 10, but once they are evolved you can level them beyond this until they reach max level once more.

How to Evolve Heroes

First, before you can evolve your heroes, you’re going to need to get the right skills. You can acquire these skills from the Tier 1 Skill Tree, near the end of the four paths that branch off as you progress. Once you’ve acquired one of these skills, you can head into the Heroes tab, where you can select your hero that you want to evolve.

Now that you have the right skills, let’s move on to the next part. Before you can evolve your hero, you’ll need to get them up to level 10 and then acquire the items that you need for them. Once you’ve reached level 10 with a character, view their evolution information to see what items you need to evolve them to their next tier.

If you have the items, go ahead and complete the evolution—which will unlock new skills and abilities for that character. If you don’t have the items you need, head out into the world and start completing missions until you acquire the items. You will need things like Training Manuals to evolve heroes, though, and these can best be obtained by retiring unneeded heroes that are Rare quality or above.

That’s really all there is to the evolution system. There are currently five evolution tiers that players can obtain, though they will take a lot of hard work to reach.
