If you’ve played any Fire Emblem games in the past, then chances are you’ve become accustomed to having to deal with the game’s Inventory system. Unfortunately, the Inventory system in Shadows of Valentia is quite different than other Fire Emblem games, and today we’re going to teach you everything you need to know to manage your Inventory in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, including when you can manage it, and how best to manage it.
How to Manage Your Inventory
Like newer Fire Emblem titles, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia offers a Convoy that follows the player around, allowing them to store up various items and weapons. This is extremely useful for stocking up on items like Bread, or even Mana Herbs, which are all items that can be used through various means to help the player’s units out.
The changes really come into play when you begin to look at each unit’s individual Inventory. Unlike older Fire Emblem games, players won’t have five or so spaces to work with when it comes to Inventory. Instead, each unit can only carry one item into battle with them. Thankfully, the unit’s primary weapon isn’t included in this inventory, and you won’t have to worry about your weapons breaking halfway through a fight.
There are still special items you can get, though, like Iron Swords, Golden Daggers, and even Leather Shields. When equipped these items will boost specific stats, making your unit’s more powerful. It does mean they won’t have any type of healing item on them, though, so be sure to bring the Cleric along in case they need to recover any health.
The easiest way to manage your Inventory is right before you head into a battle. Before a battle starts you will have a menu on the left-side of the top screen of your Nintendo 3DS or 2DS, depending on which system you are using. Here you can change the units that you have set to appear in battle, view your map, save the game, look at the game’s built-in guide, change options, exit the menu, start the fight, and finally—manage your Inventory.
The Inventory system in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is very simple. Simply click on Inventory in the menu, then select the unit that you want to work with. This will pull up a list of items in the Convoy, which you can categorize using the left and right d-pad buttons. Pressing L or R will change the character that you are looking at.
Choose the item that you want to equip in the list on the right, and then press A to finalize it and equip that item.
