Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia – How to Get a Ship, Recruit Saber

Find out how to recruit the swordsman Saber, and acquire a ship in Novis Greatport.

After you complete Act I, and gain control of Celica for the first time, you set out on a journey to reach the Temple of Mila, where you must investigate the Goddess’ disappearance. In order to get to the Temple of Mila, you’re going to need to acquire a ship. Unfortunately, the closest Greatport has halted all travels, due to a large number of pirate attacks in the area. If you want to take the pirates on, you’re going to need to find out how to recruit Saber, and add another member to your party.

Saber is the first non-friendly character that players can recruit during Celica’s journey. When you first visit him, he’ll be unwilling to talk to you. Keep reading to find out what you need to do to get his attention.

How to Recruit Saber

Recruiting Saber is actually very easy. First, make your way up to Novis Greatport. Once there, head to the Tavern and speak with the swordsman. At first he’ll brush you off, unwilling to talk to a ‘lass’ like Celica. At this point, head out of the Tavern and make your way over to the Wharf. Speak with the Old Timer on the left-hand side of your screen, and he’ll advise you that he can’t set sail due to the pirates that you heard about at the entrance.

He will mention, though, that he’d be willing to take you out on the seas, if you were to make your party stronger. At this point, finish the conversation, and then make your way back over to the Tavern. Saber is still here, so speak with him to start up a cutscene. Watch the short cutscene, and after a few moments, Celica will offer up a valuable dagger as payment for Saber’s services. He agrees to help out the Priestess, and joins the party.

How to Get a Ship

With Saber now in your party, make your way back over to the Wharf and speak with the Old Timer once more. Celica will mention that Saber has agreed to help them take on the pirates, and the Old Timer will then agree to set sail with the party onboard.

That’s everything you need to know to get a ship, and set sail for Mila’s Temple. Now all that’s left to do is head back to the world map and set sail for the nearest enemy squad on your map.
