Fallout 76 – How to Play PvP

Find out how to take a swing at fellow vault dwellers and engage in PvP in Fallout 76.

Fallout 76 is primarily a multiplayer game in which you engage in combat in a shared world. This means you can take down mutated creatures with a group of strangers or friends through co-op play, or simply attack other players for your own amusement. Luckily, there is also the option to play in Pacifist Mode if you don’t want to harm other players. We’ll explain how to play PvP in Fallout 76 for those who want to take a swing at fellow vault dwellers.

In order to gain access to the PvP multiplayer element in Fallout 76, you must first reach level 5. Before level 5, you are forcibly defaulted into Pacifist Mode. Pacifist Mode is a mode in which you cannot harm other players. Having this mode activated means you omit the risk of becoming Wanted or Hostile.

Keep in mind that Pacifist Mode does not protect you from other players who have the mode disabled. Instead, the damage you receive from other players is greatly reduced. Note, however, that if you decide to shoot back, that action is taken as a voluntary deactivation of Pacifist Mode with that enemy; you both will begin dealing full damage to one another. While in Pacifist Mode, anyone who attacks you is marked as Hostile, while anyone who kills you is marked as Wanted.

If you wish to engage in PvP mode after you reach level 5, go into the game submenu and toggle it on. Playing PvP in Fallout 76 is as easy as that. For more gameplay tips, such as how to find a Hazmat Suit or how to join the Enclave faction, visit our Fallout 76 coverage for more.
