After you complete the Destiny 2: Forsaken campaign, you’ll be granted a Broken Awoken Talisman from Petra Venj as payment for the work you’ve done.

In order to fix this talisman, you’ll need to talk to Spider and kick off the Key of Light and Darkness quest in Destiny 2, which will send you to the far edges of the Dreaming City as you scour to complete each objective.

We’ve outlined the entire quest process below, so let’s dive in and go over how to complete the Key of Light and Darkness questline in Destiny 2.

How to Start the Key of Light and Darkness Quest

To kick off the quest you’re going to need to talk to Petra Venj after completing the main campaign for Destiny 2: Forsaken.

With the campaign completed, you’ll receive a Broken Awoken Talisman, a small item that you need to reach the Dreaming City. Speak with Spider to kick off the quest and from here it’s a nonstop ride to the end.

Broken Awoken Talisman

The first part of the quest requires players to completely clear out three specific Lost Sectors that are situated around the Tangled Shore.

In order to charge up the Broken Awoken Talisman and turn it into an Inert Awoken Talisman, you’re going to need to complete a series of riddles, which we’ve outlined the solutions to below.

Each riddle corresponds to a specific Lost Sector located in the Tangled Shore.

  • ‘In an old Corsair hideout’ – Head to the Jetsam of Saturn and complete this Lost Sector.
  • ‘In the heart of the Spider’s web’—Make your way to Thieves’ Landing, West and complete the Lost Sector here.
  • ‘In a rare green place’ – Head to Four-Horn Gulch and complete the Lost Sector.

Mended Awoken Talisman

Now that you have the Inert Awoken Talisman, head back to Spider and you’ll be given a new task. Here are the details of the newest task:

‘Defeat Taken to imbue the talisman with the Darkness you need to open the doorway to the Dreaming City. Vanguard intel indicates that you can find Taken on Io and in the Sludge in the EDZ, as well as in the Strike “Lake of Shadows” and in Gambit.’

To complete this part of the quest, head to the Strikes in the EDZ and the Lake of Shadows strike. Complete the strikes here a few times and you should fill the talisman with Darkness, turning it into the Imbalanced Awoken Talisman.

Now it’s time to talk to Spider once more and move on to the next part of the quest.

Semi-Charged Awoken Talisman

Next up you’re going to need to charge the talisman once more by absorbing more Darkness into it. To complete this you’re going to need to complete the Public Event, Ether Harvest, which spawns in Four-Horn Gulch. You’ll need to defeat three Chieftains and complete the event in order to charge the Talisman.

Make sure you bring friends to help out with the event. Completing this part of the quest will reward you with the Balanced Awoken Talisman. Once you’ve completed it, head back and talk to Spider once more.

After talking to Spider, you now have what you need to enter the Dreaming City. Now it’s time to complete the quest.

Beyond the Watchtower

The final part of this quest sends players to complete Beyond the Watchtower, a Power Level 500 mission.

Obviously, you’ll want to take some time to upgrade your gear and increase your Power Level, so make sure you’re ready for the fight ahead before you head into the mission.

From here all you need to do is complete the quest and you’ll gain full access to the Dreaming City, allowing you to come and go as you please.
