Destiny 2 – How to Farm Exotic Engrams

Find out the best ways to farm for Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2.

We’ve already talked quite a bit about some of the different ways that players can get their hands on Exotic gear in Destiny 2. This gear is, obviously, some of the best available, and while there are plenty of different ways to get your hands on it, the best way is to start farming for Exotic Engrams. These items can then be turned into the Cryptarch, who will decrypt them, possibly rewarding you with an Exotic item. In this article we’ll share some of the best ways to farm Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2, which will help you increase your Power level, and help stock up your arsenal.

How to Farm Exotic Engrams

If you want to get an Exotic Engram in Destiny 2, then you’re going to have to be willing to put in the work that is required. Of course, there are always specific quests that will reward you with a guaranteed Exotic item after you complete them, but even many of these will require that you have found and decrypted at least one Exotic Engram before you can really do them. Don’t worry about it too much, though, as we’ve got all the details you need to know to start farming for Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2.

Complete Nightfall Strikes

One of the best ways to farm for Exotic Engrams is to log into Destiny 2 and complete the Nightfall Strike, which is available each week. Now, you’ll need to reach a specific Power Level, and complete some other requirements before the Nightfall becomes available, but once you’ve unlocked it, you can start grinding it weekly for Exotic items, as well as Exotic Engrams. What’s even better, is that with three characters, you can run the Nightfall three times each week, maximizing your chances of earning some sweet loot along the way.

Do Public Events

Those who played Destiny 1 will remember what it was like chasing down Public Events, and in Destiny 2, finding these public fights is even easier than ever. In fact, you can even trigger specific parts of these events to turn them into Heroic Events, which makes for an even better set of rewards. So, if you’re looking for a great way to earn yourself some Exotic Engrams, then grinding out Public Events is going to be one of the best things possible. Head over to the planet that you like the most—we’re personally fans of Nessus and Titan—and then start grinding away. Be sure to check your Director to see the most up-to-date information on the current and upcoming Public Events in the area.

Of course, if you aren’t into Public Events, you can also head into the Strike playlists and complete some different strikes to try to earn some sweet loot.

Compete in the Crucible

The Crucible is where Guardians go to show off their skill against others, and if you enjoy the PVP aspects of Destiny 2, then this is going to be a prime spot for you to farm for Exotic Engrams and other loot. The Crucible not only offers hours of endless competition and fun (especially if you enjoy PVP related activities), but it also leaves a lot of room for end game rewards that could very well turn into Exotic Engrams. It’s something to look into for sure, and it gives you a great opportunity to start earning some good loot for your Guardians.

Aside from these different methods, there is really only one other way to get Exotic loot in Destiny 2, and that’s to purchase it directly from Xur. We talked about this in our guide on how to get Exotics, which goes over more ways that you can directly get the Exotic items yourself, whereas this guide touches on the best ways to get Exotic Engrams that you’ll need to decrypt at the Cryptarch. Now that you know how to get Exotic Engrams, and how to farm them, be sure to head back over to our Destiny 2 guide for even more helpful articles.
