Darksiders 3 is a bit more challenging than the previous games, and players who are new to the series may need some guidance when it comes to exploring the world, leveling up, and surviving each enemy encounter. Below, we’ve put together a list of basic tips to help out new players who may need a few pointers to help them along in their hunt for the Seven Deadly Sins in Darksiders 3.
Collect Everything
In Darksiders 3, there are tons of collectible items scattered throughout the world for you to find. From Adamantine to Lurcher Crystals, the items you collect on your journey are there to help you level up and upgrade your arsenal, so you should try to pick up whatever items you stumble upon if possible.
Some items are strategically placed out of reach and may require you to use a certain Hollow Form in order to reach them. Make a mental note of areas you can’t get to along the way and remember to come back to explore those areas once you are better equipped.
Visit Ulthane Often
Remember to make a trip back to Ulthane whenever you have accumulated some Adamantine or have found severeal Artifacts along the way. Ulthane can upgrade both your weapons and enhancements so long as you have the right crafting materials, so make it a habit to fast travel to Maker’s Forge to upgrade your arsenal after you’ve spent some time exploring.
Nephilim’s Respite is Your Friend
Although you may notice green souls escaping from your enemies during combat, it’s important to note that those souls won’t heal you like they did in the previous games. Instead, health souls are used to replenish your Nephilim’s Respite, which you should rely on as your primary way to heal yourself.
Health Shards are consumables that are much harder to come by, whereas the Nephilim’s Respite can be refilled for free. Always use your Nephilim’s Respite to heal if you have it available. Quick tip: press down on the D-Pad to quickly return to the Nephilim’s Respite without having to scroll through your consumables.
Shatter Lurcher Crystals Near Vulgrim
Before you go shattering all those Lurcher Crystals you’ve accumulated in your inventory, keep in mind that your accumulated souls will drop as a Demon Lurcher upon death. You don’t want to shatter a bunch of Lurcher Crystals until you know that you can easily bring them back to feed them to Vulgrim. When you visit Vulgrim, check to see how many souls are required for you to reach the next level, then shatter just enough Lurcher Crystals to level up.
Avoid Buying Consumables
While you may be tempted to restore your supply of consumables or other items by purchasing them from Vulgrim, keep in mind that items in Vulgrim’s inventory will gradually become more expensive with each purchase. The price will go up each time you buy Shards or other items, so consider whether you really want to spend Lurcher souls on consumables or if you are better off searching for them in the environment.
Use Death to Your Advantage
Dying is typically something you want to avoid in Darksiders 3. When you die, you drop all the souls you’ve gathered, and all the enemies you’ve slain will respawn, which means you’ll have to trudge your way back through all of them if you want to retrieve your Lurchers. However, there is a way to use this mechanic to your advantage.
Demon Lurchers (the floating bundle of souls that drop when you die) remain intact even after dying a second time. While you are making your way back to where you died, you will also be accumulating souls by fighting off the enemies who respawned along the way, allowing you to obtain even more souls than you had when you perished. This is a great way to farm souls if you need some extra to level up, especially if Vulgrim is nearby. Plus, your Nephilim’s Respite will replenish when you respawn, which can be helpful if you can make it back to where you were without getting too hurt.
Listen Carefully
Some enemies in Darksiders 3 will try to ambush you when you least expect it. When you discover a new area, listen carefully for the sounds of enemies. Depending on what noises they make, this can tell you what types of enemies may be lurking nearby, even if you can’t see them right away. Having this added awareness will give you a slight advantage over opponents who will try to catch you by surprise. Plus, if you listen carefully, you can often find hidden collectibles or Vulgrim Plinth locations as well.
Observe Your Surroundings
Puzzle elements are scattered throughout the environment in Darksiders 3, and usually you will need to look at everything around you in order to figure out what to do next. Perhaps a bomb bug can help open a blocked passage that’s out of reach, or there’s a crystal that will open a locked door once it’s hit. Observe your surroundings and don’t be afraid to explore every nook and cranny to find hidden collectibles and passages that can help you make progress on your journey.
Lure Single Enemies
There are many regions in Darksiders 3 that consist of large open areas with enemies scattered throughout. It is easy to get overwhelmed when multiple enemies begin to surround and attack you from all sides, so it’s important to avoid attracting too much unwanted attention while making your way through an area. Whenever possible, try to lure single enemies away from others so that you can fight them one on one. This is particularly important when facing larger, more dangerous foes.
