Curiosity – What’s Inside the Cube? Releases Next Week

Arrives November 7 on Android and iOS

Peter Molyneux’s batty and rather interesting new social experiment Curiosity – What’s Inside the Cube releases on iOS and Android on Wednesday November 7.

Molyneux’s studio 22Cans has revealed the new information via the book of faces. Apparently it’ll be available to download at the convenient time of 00:22am PST and who knows, it could be a great sleeping aid.

The experiment (I’m avoiding calling it a game) was originally planned to be an iOS exclusive but complaints from Androiders have inspired the team to create a version for the Google OS. Both versions will launch simultaneously.

The app itself consists of a cube thousands are quite literally able to tap into. Using the virtual pick-axes provided, users collectively tap to get to the delicious, caramel centre. Okay I lied; it’s only partly collective. And we don’t know what’s in the centre, though it could be caramel (as far as I know, nobody has asked Molyneux).

Whatever it is that’s inside the cub, it’s apparently life-changing, and only one person can get to it.

“Joining hopefully thousands of people on the journey to the centre of the cube is going to be a fascinating experiment that we will share with the world,” read the 22Cans Facebook statement. “Remember you could be the single person to find out what TRULY amazing thing lies in the centre. Thank you for sticking with us, it’s been a couple of very stressful and fascinating weeks but the moment is finally upon us.”

If you’d like to learn a little more about this innovative experiment, take a look at Molyneux’s talk from Eurogamer Expo 2012 below.
