Crysis 3 Officially Announced

Storyline and pre-order incentives revealed

EA have confirmed what many have been speculating on since an accidental leak on Origin last week; Crysis 3 is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and as soon as spring 2013.

The original’s protagonist Prophet has returned, but this time he’s come back to a sandbox New York circa 2047, hell-bent on a revenge mission ambitious enough to make Liam Neeson’s character in Taken proud. Prophet is taking his particular set of skills and going after the corrupt CELL Corporation, who have encased and quarantined The Big Apple in what’s referred to as The New York Liberty City Dome.

The city so good they named it twice is not only quarantined in this Nanodome, it’s become an overgrown rainforest complete with rivers, trees, swamps and all things foresty. It features seven “distinct and treacherous” areas for the player to make their way through, each set apart by their unique set of characteristics and known throughout as the Seven Wonders.

Prophet has been spotted carrying a “lethal composite bow” in last week’s accidental leak. As you might hope, the nanosuit is back, and, of course, vastly improved with all the latest alien technology.

Our protagonist’s defense for having a proverbial bug in his backside is based on his knowledge of the CELL’s reasons for putting everyone in these whopping great big Nanodomes; CELL are in fact planning a massive land and technology grab but the nasty, no-good, lying corporation told New York’s citizens that the domes were to protect them from the remaining Ceph in the city (which isn’t a show about bitterly rival alien women in an outer space quirky messed-up suburban nightmare).

“With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution,” reads the official info. Awesome.

The game’s developer Crytek have made the pre-order bonuses public, along with a limited-run Hunter Edition that packs a few punches of its own. The Hunter Edition allows the player to have fun with the new bow weapon and its attachments before anyone else, whilst also giving them an exclusive Hunter Nanosuit for the multiplayer mode. It also brings you to level 5 from the off, a unique skin for your bow and three exclusive dog tags. It’s available now for pre-order on Origin for $59.99.

As for the retailer-exclusive pre-order packs, the following bonuses will be available:

Stalker Pack: Includes the base game, all Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: for players who like to stalk their prey from the shadows the Stalker Pack provides early multiplayer access to the deadly semi-auto Jackal shotgun. This powerful, close-range shotgun comes with a unique silencer attachment, custom weapon skin and two exclusive themed in-game dog tags.

Overkill Pack: Includes the base game, all Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: the Overkill Pack features early multiplayer access to the Typhoon assault weapon and skin. Spewing 500 rounds a second, the Typhoon gives players the ability to go guns blazing to take back the Liberty Dome. Also included are two exclusive Overkill themed in-game dog tags.

Predator Pack: Includes the base game, all the Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: the Predator Pack delivers early multiplayer access to the Feline submachine gun and exclusive camo. With an extremely fast rate of fire and a 60 round magazine the Feline is highly effective and deadly, at short range.
