While not quite as popular as the Super Mario Bros. cheats that we covered the other day, the games in The Legend of Zelda series have their own share of glitches and other goodies. From collecting countless rupees to passing through doors (or making them disappear completely), there are a lot of neat ones to find. Of course, we can’t forget about the vengeful chickens.
On that note, here are the 10 greatest Legend of Zelda cheats!
10.) Ganondorf Really Hates Fishing Rods (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
The final boss battle with Ganondorf in this GameCube/Wii release is one of the toughest you’ll face. However, you can distract him and get in a few extra hits with the help of your fishing rod. Simply equip and wave it in front of him a few times. He’ll be distracted, allowing you to jump in and strike. You can try and execute this more than once, but beware – he may hit you. We’d be annoyed too by a stupid fishing rod.
9.) Getting Through Doors (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link)Â

Sometimes getting through a locked door in this NES sequel can be a pain. There is a simple solution, however. Simply transform into a fairy and you’ll be able to get through the door and continue on your way. Who needs a key?
8.) Begone, Bothersome Locked Door! (The Legend of Zelda)
When you come across Level 1 in the First Quest of the game, you may notice that a locked door may stand in your way. However, there’s an easy way to get rid of it. Simply exit the level, and then go back in, and poof, it’ll be gone. Who knows, maybe it went to the realm of lost doors.
7.) Zelda isn’t too Fond of Abuse (The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks)

Zelda is supposed to be your cohort in this DS game, but for some strange reason, she can take damage from your whip or boomerang. If you feel like being cruel, go ahead and hit her a few times. Be warned, though – a princess scorned is never a pretty sight…
6.) Safe with the Hookshot (The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past)
If you’re surrounded by enemies, or it looks like you may about to be hit by an object, there is a rather easy way out – the Hookshot. Arm this accessory and use it whenever it looks like you’re about to get hit – and you’ll be fine. For some strange reason, there’s a glitch in the game that allows you to be invincible while the hookshot is in use. Be ready to move when it comes back, though, because you’ll be vulnerable again.
5.) The Deku Stick’s Impressive Strength (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
The Deku Stick simply can’t make up for the power of a sword – unless you use this little trick to make it worth your while. First, make sure you stock up on plenty of Deku Sticks. From there, equip one and execute the Jumping Slash Attack on an object, and either hit the tip or the middle of the stick with it. If you execute it right, it’ll break in half, but leave you with a weapon you can continuously use. It’s stronger than a normal sword, so keep it as long as you can!
4.) Stocking up on Rupees (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past)

It helps to have a high count of Rupees to purchase stuff – and we know a way you can stock up on them easily. Go to the area right before you hit the desert, which will be just west of the Swamps. From there, lift the large green rock to reveal the secret cave entrance underneath. Head in and lift the pots to collect 50 Rupees in all. Leave, and then go back in, and you’ll be able to do it again and again. We’re rich!
3.) Get to the Second Quest Quickly (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link)
Want to reach the second quest in The Adventures of Link right away, without having to worry about that bothersome first quest? Easy. When you’re asked to enter your name, put in “ZELDA.” The second quest will kick in automatically!
2.) The Secret Saving Ability (The Legend of Zelda/Zelda II: The Adventures of Link)

Considering these games came out in the 80s, some folks believe they couldn’t save their progress over the course of either The Legend of Zelda or Zelda II: The Adventures of Link. However, if you have a second controller, you can. On either game, press start on controller 1, then press up and start on controller 2. You’ll see an option to save the game. NOTE: doing this in The Legend of Zelda will take away your ability to retry, so don’t be alarmed.
1.) The Vengeful Chickens (The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past)
Finally, leave it to chickens to exact revenge on Link when he picks on one of their own. In A Link To the Past, simply corner a chicken and slash away at it about nine to 10 times. Once you do, you’ll incur the wrath of its kin, and chickens will come flying at you from all over the place, damaging Link. That’s what happens when you think you’re Colonel Sanders, buddy.
