So uh, Sony changed their mind about the PS3/Vita stuff. Were you surprised by this?

Yeah, it isn’t like I’m celebrating Sony’s good decision-making or anything like that, but I am surprised. Corporate bodies just do things all the time, and the system supports them regardless of what the users/customers/sonsumers think.

But the PR has been bad enough for Sony this week that this was probably the easiest snag to do something about. But if nothing else, it’s another shot to keep some of these games alive elsewhere. This is the sign we can’t trust games to stick around forever.

What did you think of Jeff Kaplan’s announcement that he’s leaving Blizzard?

Not surprised, honestly. It does fit in with all the drama at Blizzard lately, but on the other hand that dude’s been there forever. He could just be going to a new job, or retiring early or something.

Career changes can happen any time, for any reason. But yeah, any word from Kaplan is gonna be rehearsed and diplomatic so if something did happen, we probably won’t learn what.

Two games are getting a mobile version, Apex Legends and Battlefield. What are your thoughts on FPS games for mobile?

You need a controller, but gaming on mobile platforms is better than ever. There are plenty great controller options available, especially the Backbone if you’re on iOS.

The only thing you really have to reckon with is the screen size, and phones are so high-res lately it’s less of an issue. I can’t play with touch controls to save my life, though.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

Super into what Jesse wrote about Nier Replicant, especially the feature going over a strange community’s hilarious rules.

Playing any fun games this weekend?

Well, since I can talk about it now, yeah. Shin Megami Tensei Nocture all weekend, baby.

Any TV, movie, anime, or music recommendations you’d like to share?

Nothing I haven’t covered on the site already! I should have a Mortal Kombat take ready to roll this weekend.

Bonus question, what are some of your favorite pieces of video game merch that you own?

Oh gosh, I’m kind of a sentimental pack rat, so I have a lot of random stuff. I have a sick Final Fantasy XIV track jacket I wear all the time, and a whole corner of my office dedicated to Dragon Quest stuff. The highlight there is a signed print by Yuji Horii! I uh, also have a Donkey Kong puppet.

So uh, Sony changed their mind about the PS3/Vita stuff. Were you surprised by this?

Sort of, idk. It’s annoying to see praise for something the company should have never done in the first place. Corporations hate us.

What did you think of Jeff Kaplan’s announcement that he’s leaving Blizzard?

I think if I were Jeff and had to receive the brunt of the Overwatch community’s problems I too would want to leave my job. I think OW2 is in a fine spot, but one can’t help but wonder if it’s doing ok.

Two games are getting a mobile version, Apex Legends and Battlefield. What are your thoughts on FPS games for mobile?

I’m not a big mobile gamer, but that market is way too big to ignore. I’m interested to see them adapted for mobile and how they look/run.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

Going to plug my own stuff and tell you to go read that Nier Replicant review I wrote. I’m very happy with it.

Playing any fun games this weekend?

Some work stuff, and a lot fo Valorant. It’s the last weekend of the season and I need to finish up the Battle Pass!

Any TV, movie, anime, or music recommendations you’d like to share?

MORTAL KOMBAT BABY

Bonus question, what are some of your favorite pieces of video game merch that you own?

I own the Bugsnax Theme Song vinyl record and it’s honestly amazing. Some older merch I have that I really love are some Destiny toys that I have on my shelf.

So uh, Sony changed their mind about the PS3/Vita stuff. Were you surprised by this?

A little, but the pushback was really high so I can see where Sony would make the business decision to keep everything up and running, which is what should have been the case in the first place.

What did you think of Jeff Kaplan’s announcement that he’s leaving Blizzard?

It makes me a little sad, he’s been at Blizzard for so long and seems like a wonderful person. You can’t help but want these people to stay in the industry longer because they bring so much light and joy to it.

At the same time, he has to do what’s best for him and I respect that 100%. I wish him all the best and like Jesse said, I hope he’s doing alright.

Two games are getting a mobile version, Apex Legends and Battlefield. What are your thoughts on FPS games for mobile?

I think we’re going in a direction with mobile technology where these game experiences are going to get better and better over time so I’m eager to see how these two games perform. As Lucas mentioned, getting a controller is a great idea like the Backbone.

I feel like I’m definitely going to check both of them out with a controller. Touch controls, ehhhh. I still feel weird about FPS games with touch controls, but that’s just me.

Favorite piece on the site this week and why?

First, going to start by shouting out the wonderful piece on Pokemon Card GB2 from Josh, I learned a lot about the game and it was a fantastic read. Also going to shout out Jesse’s review of Nier Replicant and Lucas’s Shin Megami Tensei III preview.

And, because I worked really hard on them, I’m also going to mention the two interviews I did this week for Undying and The Darkside Detective. All of these interviews bring me back to my IndieObscura days and it just makes me really happy.

Playing any fun games this weekend?

Probably a bit of Fortnite. My weekend goal is actually to get my hands on that Fortnite comic and/or order it and then while I wait for the physical version sign up for DC Universe Infinite to read the first book online.

Any TV, movie, anime, or music recommendations you’d like to share?

I finished Sweet Home and recommend it, I think the writing and characters and all of it were just so strong.

Also been digging into Season 2 of The Circle and all I have to say is they did Bryant dirty, but I’m obsessed with the show still and want to see how it turns out. It’s way spicier this season than last season, which I love.

Bonus question, what are some of your favorite pieces of video game merch that you own?

When events were happening, I made it a point to always buy at least one piece of indie game merch whether it be a pin or plush. I have a Yooka-Laylee plush, a Shovel Knight plush, and a pin for World of Horror, all of which I adore.

Also have a lot of Kirby merchandise, but not for myself. My son loves Kirby, and I’m one of those parents who loves to spoil their kid so he has tons of Kirby merch. Seriously, the house is full of Kirby stuff from top to bottom lol.
